The 23rd Edition of the International German-Language School and Youth Theatre Festival Begins!

Tuesday, April 22, marks the beginning of a new edition of the International German-Language School and Youth Theatre Festival, organized by the German State Theatre Timișoara (GSTT) in partnership with the "Nikolaus Lenau" Theoretical High School.

The festival, held since the year 2000, brings together young German-speaking actors from various European countries on the GSTT stage. This year’s edition features theatre groups from Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Germany, and Romania (Sibiu, Bucharest, and Timișoara). In addition to the theatre performances, the festival will also include specialized workshops at the "Nikolaus Lenau" High School, led by actors and theatre educators from Romania and abroad.

Within the framework of the Festival, theatre is used both as an artistic form and as a tool for shaping individual personalities, especially among young audiences, helping to develop critical thinking, analysis of society, history, and offering perspectives and keys for understanding behaviors and social models.

The artistic coordination of the entire Festival is ensured by GSTT actors Isolde Cobeț, Robert Schein Bogdanov, and Alma Diaconu.

Speaking about this year’s edition, Lucian Vărșăndan, manager of the German State Theatre, stated:

"In the current context, marked by uncertainty, where often there is hardly any space left for dialogue, the experience of being together, which is at the heart of a youth theatre festival, is almost something extraordinary. That is why I encourage you to cherish the joy of this gathering as a lasting memory in your lives. Appreciate the opportunity to step on stage, to let yourselves be carried by imagination, and to learn new things alongside peers from other countries. On behalf of the German State Theatre Timișoara team, I wish all participants of this year’s edition of the International German-Language School and Youth Theatre Festival TOI TOI TOI and many wonderful experiences!"

Gabriela-Simona Mateiu, principal of the "Nikolaus Lenau" Theoretical High School, said about the Festival:

"It is an honor for the 'Nikolaus Lenau' High School to welcome you again this year—old and new friends, young participants and your mentors—those of you who know how to enjoy theatre, play, and creativity, building new worlds that reflect your desires, dreams, times, and contexts through words, expressions, and gestures. We wish you all a successful festival and a wonderful time in Timișoara!"

Admission to the performances is free, based on tickets that can be picked up at the ticket office of the German State Theatre. The full program of the festival is available on the theatre’s website – https://teatrulgerman.ro/en/
